Tropea
Considering the short
distance from our resort, you can’t miss a day in Tropea. It’s
an antique town constructed on the terraced edge of a promontory
that overlooks the splendid sea. You can still see well-conserved 16th
and 17th century urban structures, small streets and
baroque buildings with large courtyards and majestic portals. Sites
to see include the 13th century Cathedral in pre-Norman
style (restored many times after the various earthquakes) and the
chapel of Santa Maria dell’Isola, an antique Benedictine abbey
that sits atop a cliff. You
can also go shopping in Tropea, which has many boutiques, quaint
shops, ice cream parlors and restaurants that stay open late.

Reggio Calabria
The National
Archaeological Museum hosts the Bronzes of Riace, rare examples of
original Greek statues : it’s worth going to Reggio just to see
these very famous statues. The Cathedral is also another site worth
a visit. Our tour includes a walk along the beach, considered the
most beautiful in Italy.

Scilla
Legend has it that it was
founded by Ulysses who was forced to land here. Certainly rising
from the Greek period, today it’s a notable fishing and swimming
village. Our tour includes a visit to the castle of the Ruffo
princes, built during the Norman Age in the 11th century,
that hosts a famous Art Gallery. The caves of Tremusa or della Lamia
are spectacular; a complex of natural caves rich in stalactites,
stalagmites and shell fossils of the Pliocene epoch.

The antique Carthusian
monastery is situated in the middle of
a beautiful wood. Only a few kilometers away, in the new
monastery, a museum has been recently constructed; it illustrates
the history and daily life of Carthusian monks, who dedicated
themselves to prayer and silence in total isolation from the outside
world.

Gerace
The city of a hundred
churches. Its historic center hosts a wealth of Calabrian history:
churches and buildings represent all the dominant styles of
architecture present as a result of the various invasions of past
centuries. Most of all, we suggest a visit to the Cathedral and the
church of San Francesco.

 |
Stilo
It’s the city of
Tomasso Campanella, the author of ‘Città del Sole.’ It hosts
the 10th century church, La Cattolica, the most
significant Byzantine monument in Calabria. The ruins of the
medeival castle are also fascinating.

The beautiful mountains
of Calabria are worthy of a full-day excursion. L’Altopiano della
Sila is located in the center of the National Park of Calabria,
where you can see animals such as wolves and deer. The enchanting
Lake of Cecita is also worth a stop.
